As part of my journey to include healthy nutrition as a lifestyle choice (most of the time), I’m always looking for ways to keep everything simple.
What is Factor?
Factor (formerly Factor 75) is a meal delivery service that claims to provide dishes that are fresh, healthy, and delicious.
Why did I Choose Factor?
Since I was reviewing options for my new weight loss plan, I chose Factor. They also had a 50% off promotional special at the time (50% off for the first week, then 20% off for the next 5 weeks).
My 3-Part “Taste, Convenience, Selection (Meal), and Cost (TCSC)” Review
Taste: To be honest, I was expecting a bunch of high-priced, dry, and boring tv dinners, but I was pleasantly surprised when I tasted the first few Factor meals. The taste, texture, and amount of food provided in each of the meals justified the cost, to an extent (lol). The ingredients tasted fresh and didn’t get rubbery after microwaving. For example, in my favorite meal, the Turkey Chili & Zucchini— the zucchini was perfectly chewy, not mushy, and the chili was very flavorful. In addition, the items on the menu include a full list of ingredients and detailed nutritional information. A few of my favorite meals were:
Turkey Chili & Zucchini
Artichoke and Spinach Chicken Breast
Pork Tenderloin with Green Peppercorn Sauce
Tuscan Tomato Chicken
For my meal selection category, I chose the keto option, since they were higher in calories per meal, with an average of 600-800 calories per meal.
Convenience: For the past 3 Tuesday afternoons, I’ve received a large box from Fed-Ex containing the Factor Meals. All meals are delivered fresh and individually portioned In each box. In addition, there were 3-4 reusable ice bags in each box to keep the meals cool during delivery. Secondly, I was thankful that no meal preparation was required — simply reheat and enjoy the meals. On average, it only took 2 minutes to heat up in the microwave, so that was another plus.
Selection: Factor has a menu with roughly 35 dishes to choose from each week, and they allowed me to modify the menu to find options for specific preferences and/or dietary restrictions, including:
paleo
plant-based
high protein
low carb
low calorie
spicy
vegetarian
dairy-free
For the 21-day review, I chose the keto meal plan option.
Cost: Factor offers several plans, varying in price and number of meals. The available plans are as follows:
6 meals per week: $13.50 per meal____________ 8 meals per week: $13 per meal
10 meals per week: $12.50 per meal___________12 meals per week: $12 per meal
14 meals per week: $11.50 per meal___________18 meals per week: $11 per meal
While these prices may be reasonable for some, I believe that they could get expensive over time, especially if I was planning to feed an entire family.
Summary
Overall, I think that Factor meals are an excellent option for those who choose to utilize a meal preparation service, and I plan to use them again soon. For those who have large families or limited budgets, there are numerous alternatives, which I will cover in future posts.
